Jazz evening

27/01/2012

Barmouth

Dragon Theatre

£9.00

Vocalist MARCIA PENDLEBURY. If you haven't heard Marcia's eclectic mix of styles, from Bessie Smith blues to the present day, this is a chance not to be missed. Guitarist Andy Mackenzie has put together a great band to back her, with Greg Robley (who brought us Miranda) on bass, and Chris Pendlebury on drums. Together with Garry Bywater on tenor sax, & Gwyn Evans on trumpet & flugelhorn, energy & musicality will be the order of the night.

The support act will be singer songwriter Osian Morris from Dolgellau. In complete contrast to the main act, his songs will be mainly in Welsh, but will employ the international language of music, & his announcements will be bilingual. It is highly recommended that reservations should be made in advence, as these events are often sold out.

Organised by Barmouth Music Workshop which is a self funding, non profit making community group.

Walking

Machynlleth

Forestry Commission car park at Tan y Coed

Free

Aberystwyth Ramblers are offering seven, free guided walks in and around Machynlleth on the first Saturday of each month, February to May.

Walking is a cheap way to make new friends, keep fit and discover your area’s hidden places.  The walks run through some of the finest scenery, including river meadows, upland pasture, forest and coast.  They are 2.5 to 6 miles in length and require no more than basic fitness.  There will usually be two sequential walks on each Saturday of around four miles each, allowing you to come for a shorter or longer walk.  Many of the walks are timed to coincide with local buses or trains.

The February walks are at Cwm Cadian on Saturday 4 February at 1045.  The first walk is of six miles from the Forestry Commission car park at Tan y Coed, on the A487 between Machynlleth and Corris.  The second walk is an optional extension of another four miles.  All are very welcome.  Details of all the walks are at the Penr’allt Gallery Bookshop and the Library at Machynlleth, and local shops, or from Nigel at nigelkellie@hotmail.co.uk or on 01970 612575.
