"Under Milk Wood a play for voices." by Dylan Thomas
During the Second World War Dylan Thomas became a regular contributor to the BBC Home Service, broadcasting a number of talks and short stories. It was during this time that the seeds of Under Milk Wood were sown, in a talk about a fictional Welsh seaside town,un-named but containing many of the citizens of Llareggub. The piece was called; "Quite Early One Morning"
The version broadcast by the BBC in January 1954, though sanitized by the omission of one song and the adoption of a distinctly bland approach to the bawdier passages, remains the touchstone by which all subsequent versions must be judged.
We aspire to remain true to that first production, while restoring some of the earthiness and humour that we believe the Poet intended
